Interventional Procedures

What is it?

Interventional procedures use real-time imaging (ultrasound or CT) to guide a fine needle precisely to the target area. This allows targeted treatment with minimal incisions and faster recovery.
Intervention

Common procedures

  • Ultrasound-guided injections (cortisone for joints)
  • CT-guided facet joint injections (spine)
  • CT-guided Euflexxa® injections

Preparation

  • Fasting: Not required.
  • Keep regular medications unless told otherwise.
  • Tell us if you take blood thinners or have allergies
  • Wear comfortable clothing; you may change into a gown.
  • Fully Bulk Billed Injections for pain management.

What happens

The area is cleaned with antiseptic and we numb the skin with local anaesthetic . You’ll feel a pin-prick and brief sting. Using ultrasound or CT, the radiologist advances a fine needle to the exact spot and medicine is injected (for pain/inflammation.)
